Basic Pricing for Installed Systems

The prices below are provided to give a general idea of what the average installed cost is for the different types of solar energy products.

Residential Solar Hot Water

Household of 2 to 3 - $3950 - ($2765 after 2008 tax credit)

Household of 4 to 5 - $4775 - ($3342 after 2008 tax credit)

Factors that could add to price include: long piping paths, need for custom panel mount fabrication, installation on metal or other difficult roof type, or more than one water heater in residence to send solar water to.

Factors which could reduce the price would be the willingness to use some recycled/used solar hot water components in the system and their availability.

Commercial solar hot water systems require a site survey and custom system design to quote.

Tax credits available for solar hot water for the 2008 tax years give 30% back up to $2000 for residential customers and 30% back with no limit for commercial customers.

Sample Grid Tie Photovoltaic System Prices

550 Watt system with average of 65-90 kilowatt hours per month output**. - $5650

1000 Watt system with average of 130-160 kilowatt hours per month output**. - $7800

2000 Watt System with average of 270-310 kilowatt hours per month output**. - $13200

4000 Watt System with average of 560-650 kilowatt hours per month output**. - $24400

Factors which could increase price would be difficult to work with roofs, a requirement for pole mounts instead of roof mounts, long or difficult wiring paths. The cost for an electrician to connect the solar inverter to your circuit breaker panel may be an additional cost of installation.

** Output estimates are for installation sites located within Oklahoma or other places which have a year-round average 5.5 hours of useful sunlight hours per day. Sales tax not included.

Sample Off Grid Photovoltaic System Prices

Almost every off grid system requires a site survey and custom design. For ballpark estimates, figure an installed cost of $11 per watt for most systems 50-500 watts, 500-1500 around $10, and 1500 watts and larger around $8 to $9.
