Basic Pricing for Installed Systems
The prices below are provided to give a general idea of what the average installed cost is for the different types of solar energy products.
Residential Solar Hot Water

Household of 2 to 3 - $5200 - ($3640 after 2010 tax credit*) Household of 4 to 5 - $6250 - ($4375 after 2010 tax credit*) Factors that could add to price include: long piping paths, need for custom panel mount fabrication, installation on metal or other difficult roof type, the permitting fees of your municipality, or more than one water heater in residence to send solar water to. Sales tax on materials not included. Commercial solar hot water systems require a site survey and custom system design to quote. Tax credits available for solar hot water for the 2009 tax years give 30% back up to $2000 for residential customers and 30% back with no limit for commercial customers. * Tax credit eligibility based on information contained in IRS form 5695. Almost every off grid system requires a site survey and custom design. For ballpark estimates, figure an installed cost of $11 per watt for most systems 50-500 watts, 500-1500 around $10, and 1500 watts and larger around $8 to $9.
